The MacBook Pro replaced the PowerBook G4 in 2006 as Apple's first Intel-based professional laptop, introducing MagSafe charging and, over the years that followed, unibody aluminum construction, Retina displays, and the divisive Touch Bar.

It's Apple's longest-running and most consistently updated laptop line, which makes it a useful yardstick for the industry as a whole: the jump from spinning platters to SSDs, from Intel chips to Apple Silicon, and from a keyboard everyone complained about to the one Apple eventually admitted needed fixing all happened here first.
