The Mac Pro has served as Apple's answer to serious professional workloads since 2006, when it replaced the Power Mac G5 with a dual-Xeon aluminum tower built for video editors, 3D artists, and anyone else who needed to max out RAM and PCIe slots.

Its most controversial chapter came in 2013, when Apple swapped the tower for a cylindrical 'trash can' design that traded expandability for a radical, GPU-focused rethink — one professionals never fully warmed to. The 2019 model brought back the tower, the expansion slots, and the cheese-grater looks that longtime Mac Pro users had been asking for all along.
