Power Mac G4

The Power Mac G4 arrived in 1999 built around Motorola's G4 chip and its AltiVec vector unit, which Apple marketed hard as 'Velocity Engine' performance for video and 3D work. The Quicksilver and Mirrored Drive Doors revisions kept pushing clock speeds and expansion options through the early 2000s.

Sitting alongside them, the Power Mac G4 Cube tried something completely different: a fanless 8-inch cube with no visible seams, gorgeous and nearly silent, but expensive and short-lived. It's remembered today as one of Apple's boldest industrial-design swings, hit or not.
