Launched in 2022 alongside the Studio Display, the Mac Studio filled a gap that had existed in Apple's lineup for years: something more powerful than a Mac mini but far less expensive and cumbersome than a Mac Pro.

Packed into a squat aluminum enclosure, its M1 Max and M1 Ultra chips (and the M4 generation that followed in 2025) deliver workstation-class performance without a workstation-sized price tag or footprint, quickly making it a favorite for video editors and audio engineers who don't need — or can't justify — a full Mac Pro.
