Swimming. The Series 2 added 50 meter water resistance certified for shallow-water activity, with a speaker that physically ejects water when you spin the Digital Crown afterward, which is a genuinely clever piece of engineering and satisfying to watch. Built-in GPS arrived too, so runners could leave the phone at home and still get an accurate route, and the display doubled to 1000 nits, which matters when you are outdoors squinting at a two-inch screen. The dual-core S2 fixed the thing that had defined the first Watch, which was that it was slow. There was also a ceramic Edition at $1,249, replacing the gold one nobody bought at $17,000.
GPS and 50-meter water resistance made this the swimmer's Watch, and reviewers narrowed the recommendation to that.
