The last Click Wheel iPod and the last with a spinning disk. On sale almost unchanged for seven years, to 160 GB.
Released September 5, 2007 · Discontinued September 9, 2014 · From $249 (80 GB)

Apple renamed the hard-drive iPod the classic in September 2007, which told you where the line was going now that the touch existed. The body went to anodized aluminum and glass, storage reached 160GB, and the interface gained a split-screen view with album art on the right. It was the last of both. Last Click Wheel, last spinning disk. Apple left it on sale for seven years almost untouched and then discontinued it in September 2014, saying it could no longer source the parts. Resale prices roughly doubled the week it went, and they have not really come back down since, because a 160GB player that holds an entire music library locally turned out to be a thing people still wanted. No subscription, no streaming, no signal required.
The last hard-drive iPod was reviewed as a device holding its ground rather than advancing.
A solid compromise device.
