3D Touch, a 12 MP camera shooting 4K, 2 GB of RAM, and a 7000 series aluminum case that ended the bending stories.
Released September 25, 2015 · Discontinued September 12, 2018 · From $199 (16 GB, with contract)

The 6s kept the 6's shape and fixed its most embarrassing problem. Apple moved to 7000 series aluminum, the alloy used in aerospace, which roughly doubled the strength of the case and ended the bending stories. It also made the phone slightly heavier and thicker, which nobody minded. 3D Touch was the feature Apple sold it on. The display could tell how hard you pressed and showed previews and shortcuts accordingly, and it was genuinely clever and almost nobody used it. Apple removed it from the line four years later. The camera finally moved past 8 megapixels, going to 12 with 4K video, and the front camera went to 5 megapixels with the screen itself flashing white to light your face. Live Photos recorded a second and a half either side of the shutter. The A9 was roughly 70 percent faster than the A8 and RAM doubled to 2GB, which did more for day-to-day speed than any single feature on the box. It shipped September 25, 2015.
Reviewers treated the 6s as more than the usual half-step, crediting 3D Touch and the A9 rather than the unchanged exterior.
