iPhone 15 Pro

Titanium. Apple moved the Pro frame from stainless steel to grade 5 titanium and the phone lost 19 grams, which does not sound like much until you hold one. The Action button replaced the mute switch that had been on every iPhone since 2007, and it can be set to the camera, the torch, a shortcut or anything else. USB-C arrived with USB 3 speeds on the Pro models, twenty times faster than Lightning, which matters if you shoot ProRes. The A17 Pro was the first 3nm chip in anything and brought hardware ray tracing, which Apple demonstrated with console games that mostly ran badly. Early units ran hot enough that Apple shipped iOS 17.0.3 to fix it.

Reviews & Reception

Titanium, USB-C and the Action button made this the most substantial Pro revision in several years.

This year's new iPhones actually feel like significant upgrades compared to the last two models.

Though the individual features seem small on their own, altogether this year's set of updates add up to more than the sum of their parts.
