iPhone 15

The EU told Apple to use USB-C. Apple used USB-C. After eleven years of Lightning the whole line switched over, which meant one cable for the phone, the iPad and the Mac, and rather a lot of accessories quietly became obsolete overnight. The Dynamic Island came down from the Pro line, so the notch is finally gone from every iPhone. The main camera went to 48 megapixels on the standard model for the first time, with the same 2x crop trick the 14 Pro had. The A16 Bionic arrived a year after the Pro got it, continuing the one-generation delay. The frame went to aluminum with a color-infused back glass and contoured edges, which made it noticeably nicer to hold than the 14.

Reviews & Reception

USB-C after eleven years of Lightning, the Dynamic Island coming down from the Pro line and a 48-megapixel main camera together made this the most substantial update to the standard iPhone in years, though the port is capped at USB 2 speeds.

the combination of those hand-me-downs, a revamped camera and the switch to USB-C make this year's regular iPhone a worthy upgrade.
