Apple killed the mini and put a 6.7-inch phone in the cheap slot instead, which is a fairly blunt admission of what people actually buy. The 14 Plus is an iPhone 14 with a bigger screen and a 4325 mAh battery, and that battery gave it 26 hours of video, longer than the 14 Pro Max. For $899 it was the cheapest way to get a large iPhone by $200. It sold slowly at first, badly enough that reports had Apple cutting production within weeks, then settled into steady numbers once people worked out what it was. No ProMotion. No always-on, no telephoto, and the A15 rather than the A16, which was an obvious trade and one a lot of buyers were happy to make.
