Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via satellite, the first front camera with autofocus, and the year Apple split Pro silicon from standard.
Released September 16, 2022 · Discontinued September 9, 2025 · From $799 (128 GB, unlocked)

The 14 is an iPhone 13 with two safety features bolted on. Apple kept the A15 Bionic rather than moving to the A16, which it reserved for the Pro models, and that split between standard and Pro silicon has held every year since. Crash Detection uses a new high-g accelerometer and gyroscope to work out that you have been in a car accident, and then calls emergency services for you. Emergency SOS via satellite lets the phone reach help with no cellular coverage at all, pointing you at the sky to find a satellite, and it has since been credited with a number of rescues. US models lost the SIM tray entirely and went eSIM only. The front camera got autofocus, finally.
The 14 drew comparisons to the two phones before it, with reviewers pointing at the Pro models for the year's real changes.
