Stainless steel, a third telephoto camera, Apple ProRAW, and the LiDAR scanner that made low-light autofocus six times faster.
Released October 23, 2020 · Discontinued September 14, 2021 · From $999 (128 GB, unlocked)

The 12 Pro shared its screen size with the regular 12 for the first time in the Pro line, 6.1 inches of OLED at 2532x1170, and separated itself on cameras and materials. Stainless steel instead of aluminum, 6GB of RAM instead of 4, and a third telephoto camera at 52mm. The new part was LiDAR. A time-of-flight scanner on the back measured the distance to everything in frame, which made autofocus in near-darkness roughly six times faster and let Night mode portraits work at all. Developers got it for augmented reality, where it mattered rather less than Apple hoped. Apple ProRAW arrived a month after launch, giving the computational pipeline's output to photographers as an editable raw file, which is a genuinely unusual thing for a phone to offer. Ceramic Shield, MagSafe, 5G and flat edges came across from the 12. It cost $999 and shipped October 23, 2020.
Reviewers found the 12 Pro hard to justify next to the standard 12, which shared its chip and display.
