A second ultra-wide camera, Night mode, the A13 Bionic, and a $50 price cut against the XR.
Released September 20, 2019 · Discontinued September 14, 2021 · From $699 (64 GB, unlocked)

Apple dropped the price. The 11 replaced the XR at $699, fifty dollars less, and became the phone most people bought for the next two years. It kept the 6.1-inch LCD and added a second camera, an ultra-wide at 120 degrees, which was more useful day to day than the telephoto on the Pro models. Night mode was the real change. The camera held the shutter open across several seconds, aligned the frames and merged them, and photos that would have been unusable on the XR came out clean. Google had shipped this a year earlier on the Pixel and Apple's version was better. The A13 Bionic was faster than anything else on sale and stayed that way for a long time. Battery life went up another hour over the XR. Six colors, a slightly tougher glass, and a camera bump that people complained about for about a month.
The consensus was unusually direct: the cheaper phone was the one to buy. Reviewers rated Night mode a strong first attempt, more restrained than the Pixel's, and concluded the Pro models were hard to justify for most people.
