5.1mm thick, the thinnest product Apple has made, with a Tandem OLED display and the M4 before any Mac had it.
Released May 15, 2024 · From $1,299 (256 GB, Wi-Fi)

The thinnest product Apple has ever made, at 5.1mm, which is thinner than the iPod nano it liked to mention on stage. The screen is why. Apple stacked two OLED panels on top of each other, a technique it called Tandem OLED, because one OLED layer could not hit the brightness Apple wanted without burning out. The result runs 1000 nits full-screen and 1600 peak with per-pixel blacks and none of the mini-LED blooming. The M4 arrived here before any Mac, which had not happened before. Apple also sells a nano-texture glass option on the 1TB and 2TB models, etched rather than coated, which is the first time that finish has appeared on anything portable.
Reviewers called the hardware remarkable and the price hard to justify. The recurring note was that a major engineering leap had not much changed what an iPad actually does.
