iPad (6th generation)

The first cheap iPad to take an Apple Pencil, at $329 and $299 for schools.

Released March 27, 2018 · Discontinued September 10, 2019 · From $329 (32 GB, Wi-Fi), $299 for education

iPad (6th generation)

The cheap iPad that learned to take a Pencil. Apple brought Apple Pencil support down from the Pro line for the first time, put it in the $329 model, and priced it at $299 for schools, which is the entire point of this generation. An A10 Fusion replaced the A9. Everything else is the 2017 iPad, including the unlaminated display with its visible air gap, which is more noticeable when you are drawing directly on the glass than when you are reading. It sold enormously into education, where a stylus and a low price together mattered more than a laminated screen ever would.

Reviews & Reception

Apple Pencil support arrived on the cheap iPad, aimed at classrooms.

Exciting? Maybe not, but you won't find a better tablet for the price.

Even so, its potent combination of price, polish and power make this iPad the best value tablet money can buy.
