Seven months. That is how long the third-generation iPad lasted before Apple replaced it, which annoyed a great many people who had bought one in March. The reason was Lightning, introduced on the iPhone 5 that September, which Apple clearly could not leave off its flagship tablet for another year. So the fourth generation arrived in October with Lightning, the A6X and a FaceTime HD camera. The A6X roughly doubled the graphics performance of the A5X, which the Retina display had been straining, and everything else came straight from the machine it replaced barely half a year earlier.
