The base iPad finally gets flat sides, USB-C and a landscape front camera, and still only supports the Lightning Apple Pencil.
Released October 26, 2022 · From $449 (64 GB, Wi-Fi)

The tenth iPad finally retired the shape Apple had been selling since 2013. A 10.9-inch screen, flat sides, USB-C, Touch ID in the top button, and a landscape front camera, which is the obvious place for it on a device most people use horizontally and took Apple twelve years to do. The awkward part was the Pencil. The base iPad still only supports the first-generation Pencil, which charges via Lightning, and this iPad has USB-C, so Apple sells a dongle to connect the two. It is the silliest accessory arrangement Apple currently sells. The price also went up, from $329 to $449, and the ninth generation stayed on sale underneath it.
The redesign borrowed from the Air, and the $120 price rise plus first-generation Pencil support drew most of the criticism.
